Dr. Mark Parisi Hired to Direct Wellness Center
SUNY Orange announces the hiring of Dr. Mark Parisi as the new director of the College’s Wellness Center.
Parisi, who earned his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University at Albany, has maintained his own psychotherapy and counseling practice in New Paltz for the past 10 years and has also served as a career specialist at Dutchess Community College. He earned his master’s in education degree (counseling and human services) from Lehigh University, a master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in Japanese studies and linguistics from Bucknell University.
The SUNY Orange Wellness Center, with staff on both the Middletown and Newburgh campuses, is open to all students, staff, and faculty with the intent of promoting health education and wellness for the entire College community while also assisting students in reaching their college and career goals.
Registered nurses are available to consult with students, faculty and staff regarding common health concerns, such as cold and flu symptoms, minor injuries, headaches, etc., and more serious problems such as eating disorders, alcohol and substance abuse, and pregnancy. The Center staff also serves as first responders when illness and injury occur on either campus, and provides first aid and referrals to health providers as needed.
Mental health counselors and liaisons are available to assist students with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress management, PTSD, and more via short-term counseling and referral to community services. The Center promotes a wide array of wellness initiatives each semester, offers educational programming and partners with many local and regional agencies for the benefit of the College and local communities.
