Capturing the Motion of Water through Pastels and Oils
To further the visual art experience in Orange Hall Gallery, Joan Kehlenbeck will be exhibiting her artworks that depict water scenes in a show entitled "Capturing the Motion of Water through Pastels and Oils". The paintings will be hung on the long wall of Orange Hall Gallery Fringe.
This mini-show is meant to complement the art demonstration she is giving on Sunday, July 27 between 1 and 4 p.m. in the gallery, and the show runs simultaneous with the River Valley Artists Guild 2014 Summer Members Show, July 15 through August 12. The title of the art demonstration is "Triptych Seascapes on Canvas." Kehlenbeck will be doing an ongoing demonstration, from 1 to 4 p.m., using oil with brushes and palate knives. Through the demo, she will explain how she creates the illusion of surf and the movement of waves in her ocean paintings.
Kehlenbeck has an associate in arts degree from Orange County Community College. She is a community arts leader as she is president of RVAG and chairs the group’s shows. She is an enthusiastic participant in the Port Jervis Arts Walk. She also presents successful art workshops for children. In addition, she is a top-notch seamstress whose stitchery nearly equals in quality her paintings.
Kehlenbeck has always lived in the country as she lived in Forestburgh, Sullivan County as a girl, and now resides in Cuddebackville, Orange County. Living in the country has made artwork an extension of her life. Her goal is to capture the beauty of nature and preserve it for others to enjoy forever. Local scenes, historical buildings, and portraits are her favorite subjects. In recent years, she has become fascinated with seascapes and the action of water at the seashore, and subsequently, has developed a technique in the painting of waves especially in rough surf as she creates the illusion of their three-dimensionality. She works in oils, pastels, and charcoal.
