College to Dedicate Edward A. Diana Physical Education Center June 12
SUNY Orange will hold a dedication ceremony for the Edward A. Diana Physical Education Center on the College’s Middletown campus at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 12.
The College’s Board of Trustees in April voted unanimously to rename the physical education facility in honor of Diana, a lifelong public servant who spent 12 years as Orange County Executive before retiring on Dec. 31, 2013. Prior to his becoming County Executive, Diana served for 12 years as a county legislator, and was also a councilman and deputy supervisor in the Town of Wallkill in the 1980s.
Dr. William Richards, SUNY Orange president, will host the dedication event with remarks expected from Diana and Rich Rowley, chair of the SUNY Orange Foundation Board of Directors. Joan Wolfe, chair of the SUNY Orange Board of Trustees, will present a framed copy of the resolution approving the new name to Diana and his wife Mary.
A 1968 graduate of SUNY Orange, Diana has been a member and supporter of numerous civic organizations over the years. Most recently, he was named to the Board of Trustees of the Orange County Citizens Foundation. He has also served on the boards of the Sons of Italy, the Middletown Elks, UNICO and the Goshen Historic Track. He is a former member of the Middletown Kiwanis, past president of the Middletown High School Booster Club, and former member of both the Horton Hospital and the Arden Hill Hospital Foundation boards.
As County Executive, Diana served as president of the New York State County Executives Association and the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC). He has received numerous commendations for his efforts and leadership by organizations throughout the Hudson Valley.
The Edward A. Diana Physical Education Center, an 89,000-square-foot facility built in 1974, features one large gymnasium that can be divided into three smaller gym spaces; an indoor, heated 25-meter swimming pool; weight room; racquetball/handball courts; spinning/cycling room; dance studio; and locker rooms.
