The recent works of award-winning artist Meredith Rosier will be on display in a small, solo exhibit in Orange Hall Gallery at SUNY Orange during the month of January 2019.

Known for her abstract drawings in which she layers with a variety of media including ink, pencils, conte crayon, pastel, graphite, dirt, ash, sawdust, and rust scraped from metals, her works have a purposeful dense quality.  “I seam tiers of pigment to one another until the density approaches a feeling of motion.” It is, indeed, movement that Rosier’s works focus. “I investigate the effects of movement upon form. I draw the changes enacted on form when it is transformed by motion. The visual effect of motion on form can be delicate or brash, still or active,” she states.

Titled  Perseverance of Mystery  by Meredith Rosier, the show will be on view

January 2 – 18 Monday – Friday 9am to 6pm; from January 22 - 31, the gallery hours are  Monday – Thursday 9am to 8pm and on Friday 9am to 6pm.

In addition to the exhibit, Rosier will give a master class on Thursday, January 31 starting at 4pm:  Contemporary Drawing in Abstraction. She will explain her concept on drawing, then demonstrate, followed by hands-on by participating attendees.

A closing reception for the exhibit will take place immediately following the master class, at approximately 6:30pm. The exhibit, master class, and reception are all free and open to the public.

Meredith Rosier has been honored with fifteen awards since 2004, the most prestigious of which she received in 2015, the National Association of Women Artists Medal of Honor Genius Award, NYC. She took Drawing Studies and Color Theory at Yale University School of Art and studied drawing with mentors Jacob Landau and Irving Petlin. In addition, she received her BFA from the University of South Carolina, and her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She has received four residency awards two of which were full fellowships to  Lacoste School of Art, Lacoste Vaucluse, France and Vermont Studio School, Johnson, VT, respectively.
