Watercolorist Judith Hummer loves to experiment. So, when she discovered yupo paper, she figured she’d give it a try with the fast medium of watercolors. To her delight, it opened a new chapter in her life as an artist. Yupo paper is what she describes as “a correctible surface.” She continues, “Yupo is great as it allows you to play and try new ideas but it also lets you wipe the whole thing away and try again.  A lot of times we forget to play and just have fun with our art. This allows you to try something without any consequence -- no paper is wasted.” Yupo is a high gloss, synthetic, tree-free, recyclable material.

On Saturday, March 3, Hummer will demonstrate how she uses yupo paper when painting with watercolors. The demo begins at 2:30pm in Orange Hall Gallery, the venue where 108 paintings are being displayed by 58 members of the North East Watercolor Society of which she is a signature member. This year she is also the judge of the NEWS show.

Hummer’s intension during this lively session entitled Let Your Creativity Flow with Watercolor on Yupo Paper  is to “get the creative juices flowing and encourage people to experiment at home and try something new.” The demonstration is part of the art reception which is scheduled from 1 to 4:15pm and begins with pianist Geoff Hamburg playing jazz standards and familiar classical pieces.

Attendees will be able to view several finished paintings by Judith Hummer as thirteen of her works are hung on the Orange Hall Gallery Fringe wall in her solo exhibit                 An Unexpected Point of View. This show continues through March 20.

Hummer has been the recipient of numerous awards from various international and regional juried exhibitions. In addition to her signature membership in the North East Watercolor Society, she holds signature status in the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and Garden State Watercolor Society and is an elected member of New Jersey Watercolor Society. She currently teaches watercolor in Bridgewater, NJ.
