Dear Visitor,

The Curious Conundrum of Cursive Writing is an exhibition that explores the disappearance of handwriting in our twenty-first-century society, the neuroscientific consequences, and how some artists have chosen to explore the intimacy of the medium.

Featured are handwritten examples of manuscript illumination, historic documents, and reproductions of correspondences between contemporary artists and their significant others. Highlighted is an installation of over twenty letters created by Chelsea Ford, a current SUNY Orange student, as an imaginary conversation between herself and her beloved grandmother as part of a Design I project from the fall of 2017.

Join us at the Harriman Student Gallery from Feb. 12 through March 15 to explore, examine, and investigate handwriting and its association with art, science, history, and cultural practices.

Please take time to reflect, discuss, and consider subject, technique, and meaning. Keep in mind that not all works presented here reflect the views of SUNY Orange, yet we do continue to support our students' and faculty's opportunity to share their work with you!
