The Impact of Social Media and Technology on Body Image and Eating Disorders

Dates: 12/06/2017 (Wed): 11:00 am- 12:30 pm
Category: Wellness Center

Today, more than ever, we are bombarded with body image messages in social media that create unrealistic expectations and pressure to look or act a certain way in order to fit in or be accepted by others. This can be catastrophic for those who live with an eating disorder.

In this workshop with Nancy B. Graham LCSW, you will learn how to identify the most popular social media platforms and their impact on those with eating disorders.

The workshop will be on Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Gerry Forum, Room 010, Rowley Center for Science and Engineering.

Graham is the Professional Relations Representative at The Renfrew Center of Northern New Jersey. The Renfrew Center has been a pioneer in the treatment of eating disorders since 1985, and is the nation’s first residential eating disorder facility, with 17 locations throughout the country. Renfrew has helped more than 65,000 women with eating disorders and other behavioral health issues.

This program is presented by The Mental Health Association In Orange County, Inc. and the Wellness Center.
