Description:

The State University of New York is celebrating New York Foundation of the Arts Fellows’ winning grants and fellowships during the last thirty years of NYFA’s granting. The Mid-Hudson is the first region to schedule events.

SUNY Orange is participating in this celebration of the arts by having events on both campuses during the Fall 2017 semester. The first event is an eight-artist exhibit on view in Orange Hall Gallery Aug. 24 through Oct. 3 is "Innovator and Activist Visual Artists: SUNY Celebrating New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships."

Artworks have been created in various media including paintings, drawings, lithographs, fresco-secco, paper art, wood-cuts, and three-dimensional works in repurposed and recycled materials.  The subjects of the works vary greatly, making this an interesting show to enjoy and investigate.

Artists included in this show are Andrea Moreau, Angela Basile, Beth Sutherland, Jill Parisi, Marisa Gonzales Silverstein, Phyllis Gay Palmer, Mary Ann Lomonaco, and Ivy Dachman. They reside in Dutchess, Ulster, and Westchester Counties.

During the reception in Orange Hall Gallery on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., some of the participating artists will speak briefly during a panel discussion about the effects their grants had on their lives as artists. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

Regular gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. The gallery is closed for the Labor Day Weekend.

The show in Orange Hall Gallery has been curated by artist/adjunct art professor Polly Giragosian.

In addition, two other NYFA artists’ shows are opening in the region: the large touring NYFA show opens at a reception at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday, September 9 from 5 to 7pm. And a local exhibit showcasing Ulster County NYFA recipients opens on the SUNY Ulster campus on Friday, Sept. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.

NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowships are administered with leadership support from New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
