Islands of Corruption: Islands Used As Tax Havens

Dates: 02/23/2017 (Thu): 11:00 am- 12:00 pm
Category: Global Initiative

Economics professor Kidaya Ntoko will dispel the common, touristic image of paradise islands (coconuts trees, blue water, white sand…) in order to show how some have been used as tax havens. He will explore the phenomenon of offshore tax havens from its origin to how it is applied today.

The presentation also aims to thoroughly study tax havens' relation to corruption and elucidate how different parts of the world are affected by it. Unfortunately, often these places are havens only for a few, while many are left out.
