College's User Account Names to Change Effective Jan. 2, 2019

College Community,

Effective on Jan. 2, 2019, the College's standard for all user account names will be the combination of your legal “first name” and “last name”, up to 20 characters in length.  This will allow us to fully utilize our Single Sign On system to provide you with one point of access to as many systems as possible.  As an illustration, on Jan. 2, the username “vinniecazzetta” will no longer work … the new username of “vincentcazzetta” will need to be used.  At this time, email addresses are not changing as a result of the username/login change.

The new Microsoft identity management software does not accept some of the username exceptions that were allowed when we used the Novell system. Attempting to accommodate our previous username exceptions has become extremely complicated, making it imperative that we create standard user names for everyone who accesses our systems.

The ITS staff continues its work toward establishing standards and consistency across our many systems. We successfully adopted/implemented password standards and just recently transitioned our identity management software to a Microsoft implementation. We are now turning our attention to a username standard.

We will continue to devise and implement standards that allow our systems to operate at an optimum level.  We thank you for your understanding as we move our systems forward to better serve the faculty, staff and students of SUNY Orange.
