On Time: Paintings & Photographs by Mary Cathryn Roth

Mary Cathryn Roth began painting in 1990, photographing in 1996 and shooting digital video in 2001. Her fine art focuses on abstract depictions of time, light, space, absence or presence, and the body in motion. Patterns, structure and order play a key role in the composition of her work. She is intrigued by how we structure and order our lives, bodies, and minds; universally, primally, and specifically to our time.

She uses the camera and occasionally video camera like the brush—as an extension of body, mind and spirit. She often uses extended/slowed shutter speeds to portray motion and the passing of time.

The exhibition brings together paintings and photographs. On Time: Paintings & Photographs by Mary Cathryn Roth will be on view in the Mindy Ross Gallery, Kaplan Hall Jan. 3 through March 9.
