Referencing the Past to Render the Present

To give a more in-depth view of her works, Laura Von Rosk, whose paintings are in the Mindy Ross Gallery Oct. 22 through Nov. 217, will give a master class entitled Referencing the Past to Render the Present during which she will discuss some of her sources for images, as well as oil painting techniques. Presently living in the Adirondacks and for a long time in the Hudson Valley, she has also spent many months at a time in Antarctica.

The class is set for Monday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. in the OBTC Great Room 101 in Kaplan Hall. She will reference her own paintings in a short tour of the gallery, and explain the use of palette knives, brushes, and paints. Then, while discussing what her goals are when approaching a new artwork, she will wrap up her lesson on techniques, materials, and concept by giving a demonstration.

This class is free and open to the public. Questions may be directed to Cultural Affairs at   (845) 341-4891 or cultural@sunyorange.edu. Also see the website at  www.sunyorange.edu/culturalaffairs.

Von Rosk holds a BFA from SUNY Purchase and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Presently, she is Gallery Director of the Lake George Arts Project.
