SUNY Orange Foundation - Reorganization Update
Dear College Community:
Happy New Year and well wishes from the entire Board of the SUNY Orange Foundation. As President Young indicated in her announcement on Dec. 15, the Foundation Board and College Board of Trustees entered into a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which enables the Foundation to follow its strategic objectives for continued growth and enhanced efficiency as an independent, yet closely related, support organization for the College. I want to take this opportunity to provide a brief update on where we stand in the reorganization process.
The first order of business was to name Dr. Russell Hammond as Interim Executive Director. His knowledge of our organization and the College, as well as 30+ years of working as executive directors of several other foundations, non-profit organizations, and regional directors of various state agencies, make him uniquely qualified to lead us through this transition.
We will also be welcoming Sharon Hood ’91, as a full-time administrative assistant to Russell. Sharon has been working for several months as a temporary assistant with the College and the Foundation. In addition to being a proud graduate of SUNY Orange and Mount Saint Mary, Sharon comes to us with extensive experience in the private sector; which we believe will prove to make her an excellent addition to the Foundation family.
The Foundation will continue to reside on the fourth floor of Morrison Hall, but through the generosity of Dr. Young will now occupy most of that area.
Dr. Hammond, myself, and other members of the Foundation Board will be meeting with Dr. Young and members of her team to work through how communication, alumni affairs, scholarship management and other related activities will be handled. All are in agreement that the overarching goal is to create synergy and foster collaboration so above all, our students benefit, and the college community has the resources it needs to serve them.
This outcome is the result of a year-long joint planning effort between the two organizations. Special thanks are due to Dr. Young and Trustee Chair Helen Ullrich, as well as a Foundation Task Force made up of Foundation Directors Rich Rowley, John Rath III, Frank Peverly, Kathy Frommer, Nick Illobre, and Derrik Wynkoop.
I would like to express our gratitude to Vinnie Cazzetta for his years of service to the Foundation. Our organization has enjoyed significant success and growth during Vinnie’s tenure as Executive Director. We wish him well as he continues to fulfill his myriad of responsibilities as VPIA for the College.
Those are the highlights of our progress so far. We will have more details following the Jan. 23 Foundation Board meeting and over the months to come.
