Bringing New Hope to Haiti: The HEART in Haiti School

Many Americans felt sympathy for the people of Haiti after the devastating earthquake in 2010. Maria Blon, a former SUNY Orange mathematics professor, helped launch a new school for needy Haitian children, the “Heart in Haiti” School, which combines traditional curriculum with critical thinking and sustainability awareness. Professor Blon will speak on the challenges and achievements of this unique experiment in cross-cultural outreach and education.

Hear Maria speak about the school and the issues facing the residents of Haiti from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7 in the Gerry Forum of the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering.
