Inspired by the Goddess: A life in art and writing ~ journeys of transformation through art

Free association with words and drawings will be experienced by participants through a guided meditation given by Dr. Cristina Biaggi on Wednesday, Oct. 5 during a master class entitled “Inspired by the Goddess: A life in art and writing ~ journeys of transformation through art.” During the meditation and free association, participants will be asked, “to come up with one or more artistic ideas,” according to Biaggi, “from which they will be encouraged to formulate some sort of plan of implementation.”

This master class will take place from 5:15-6:45 p.m. in the OCTC Great Room in Kaplan Hall at SUNY Orange. The event is free and open to the public.

The early evening event will begin with, writes Biaggi, “A description of my artistic journey through my writing and my art, accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation depicting some of my most original ideas and how I implemented them.” In order to gain a deeper appreciation of Biaggi’s art, attendees will also be encouraged to view her works including a site-specific installation and sculptures presently on view in the glass vitrine cases in the Foyer of the Mindy Ross Gallery also in Kaplan Hall.

Biaggi travels extensively worldwide and has spoken on a variety of subjects at the Smithsonian Institute, the Glastonbury England Conference, the Beijing Women’s Conference, the 92nd Street Y, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Society of Women Geographers.

She has studied the classics, art and art history, archaeology, literature, and languages at Vassar, The University of Utah, Harvard, and NYU where she attained her PhD in Art and Philosophy.

Free and secure parking is available in the Kaplan Hall parking garage accessible at 73 First Street. For more information, contact (845) 341-9386 or cultural@sunyorange.edu or the website at www.sunyorange.edu/culturalaffairs.
