Play Auditions will be held Sept. 18

Auditions for this semester’s play production, Moonchildren by Michael Weller, will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 18 in the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall.

Participation in play productions at SUNY Orange is open to all registered students (full- or part-time). Rehearsals are conducted in the evenings on Monday through Thursday, although you may not be required at all rehearsals, and you may be excused for cause. Be sure NOT to register for classes with conflicting time slots.

Two productions are given each year, presented in November and April. Everyone must audition by presenting a short memorized monologue (30-60 seconds). Casting will be competitive. All members of the company participate in all aspects of production, including backstage crews, scenery and costume construction, lighting, front of house, etc.

To participate, each student must:

1)      Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (first semester Freshmen excluded)

2)      Currently take or previously have taken Theatre Workshop (THE 107)

3)      Be available for rehearsal every Monday through Thursday evening from 7pm to 10pm

4)      Attend all technical and dress rehearsals leading up to opening night

Moonchildren is a story about eight college students (1965) on the verge of graduation who are forced to make like choices they are not well prepared to make. It explores how these students react to the impending transition from the unmoored existence of student life—free love, idealistic protest, romantic illusion carefree poverty, hedonism—to the demands of adulthood: leaving behind childish things for a life of consequence and assessing their prospects in it. It is a universal story infused with the energy and chaos of the 1960’s.
