SUNY Orange is fully committed to meeting the unique needs of returning veterans and strives to promote a smooth transition to college as well as academic success for student veterans. SUNY Orange's associate degree and certificate programs are approved for veterans and eligible dependents by New York State Department of Education.



The Veterans Certifying Official, Kelly Jonigan will certify your enrollment each semester with the VA and will assist you with any difficulties you might encounter in using your educational benefits. You must be accepted to the college before using any educational benefits that you may be eligible for.

Mary Mantilla's role as the SUNY Orange Veterans' Services Coordinator is to manage and deliver services to students who are Veterans, active military and service family members. These services include, but are not limited to, linkage to community resources and care, supervising Veteran work-study participants, maintaining up-to-date information on the Veterans' Services website and via a monthly Veteran newsletter, and acting as a liaison and advocate for Veteran students to the college community and to SUNY. Mary's goal is to provide the support needed for Veteran students to complete their college studies. Mary is available on Mondays from 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Tuesdays 8:30 am-3:30 pm and on Wednesdays from 8:30 am-2:30 pm and may be available outside these times by appointment.

SUNY Orange has mental health professionals with experience and training in working with returning veterans to assist in transitioning to civilian/college life as well as dealing with any deployment-related counseling issues. Any student who would like to make an appointment for counseling may contact the Wellness Center at 845-341-4870. The Wellness Center can also provide referrals to local community resources that are available for veterans when necessary.
