Earn college credit by passing a CLEP test†. CLEP is a nationally recognized series of examinations which allow the student to demonstrate knowledge acquired in a non-college setting. Credit is awarded based on the score earned for each examination.

Scheduling a CLEP Test

To schedule a CLEP Test, please call (845) 341-4890. Test takers must pay a non-refundable, non-transferable SUNY Orange proctoring fee of $25 prior to testing appointment.

CLEP testing is held at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.

Payment and Registration

Test takers may pay the SUNY Orange test fee by MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or money order. Test takers using a charge card must provide card number and expiration date, test taker's name, cardholder's name (if different from test taker's), and cardholder's zip code. All payments are to be made in the Student Services Central office and receipt must be presented to Test Center Administrator. Money orders should be made payable to SUNY Orange.

Prior to test day, test takers must print and complete a registration form at the College Board’s CLEP testing website.†

On test day, test takers must bring the completed registration form, two forms of identification, and payment for CLEP exam of $80.

  • The primary form of ID must be a non-expired, government-issued, photo ID with a signature (such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID).
  • The secondary form of ID must have either a photo or a signature (such as a student ID card, Social Security card, or credit card).

Test takers may pay for their CLEP exam by check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, or Discover. Checks and money orders must be made payable to CLEP.

Other Important Information

Several exams (American Literature, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, College Composition Modular, and English Literature) have an optional essay that accompanies the multiple choice exam. You must check with your school to find out if the optional essay is required. (The optional essays are required for SUNY Orange students.)

If you need to complete the optional essay, you will need to register for it separately (and pay the $25 SUNY Orange proctoring fee as above). We recommend that you wait to schedule the essay until after you have completed the multiple choice exam, however, you may choose to take both on the same date if you prefer.

Please see the following document for information regarding SUNY Orange's CLEP credit granting policy. Please note that this applies only to students seeking credit for SUNY Orange courses. It does not reflect the credit granting policies at other institutions.
