Student Senate Membership
All students (full & part-time) who register for classes pay a mandatory student activity fee. When you pay your activity fee, you automatically become a member of the Student Association. As a member, you have the right to run for or elect representatives to the governing body of the Student Association, the Student Senate.
The Student Senate is responsible for appropriating activity fees, chartering clubs and organizations, and acting on behalf of the Student Association's best interest. In short, the Student Senate is your representative voice on campus. You are strongly encouraged to attend Senate meetings and/or bring your concerns to the attention of any Senate members.
Eligibility for Elections
Students interested in participating in the Student Senate should first contact the Student Activities Office (SAO). All first year students must be registered for a minimum of six credits to be eligible to run for the position of Student Senator. All returning students must be enrolled for a minimum of six credits and have a cumulative quality point average (CQPA) of a 2.00 by the end of the semester preceding the election. Students interested in running for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer must have completed the aforementioned requirements and have accumulated a minimum of twenty-four credits prior to assuming office. For those interested in the position of Secretary,you must be enrolled for a minimum of six credits and fulfill the aforementioned requirements. (The president, vice president, treasurer and secretary are voted on within the Student Senate.)
