COVER DRIVE-LIVE BANDCover Drive Pic

Thursday, September 24
Kaplan Hall, Great Room (NBG)
11 a.m.

"Cover Drive is a band on a mission to bring the sunshine and sounds of their native Barbados to the world. The young quartet has already ignited the UK charts with three top 10 hits in 2012, inclusive of their infectious smash ‘Twilight’, which shot straight to No. 1 upon release, nabbed a 2012 Soul Train Music Award nomination for Best Caribbean Performance, and had their collaboration with  Far East Movement, ‘Turn Up The Love’, selected as a part of President Obama 2013 inaugural playlist.  Not too shabby for a band who has been only been on the international music scene for a year and a half."

VLADIMIR CAAMANO-COMEDIANVladimir Caamano

Tuesday, October 20
Tower Building, Cafeteria (NBG)
11 a.m.

With the name "Vladimir," few people expect a Dominican from the Bronx to take the stage. In his own words, "My name is Vladimir, but I look more like Hector." His experience is the fruit of an immigrant Dominican family living in the cultural mecca that is New York City. Raised in the Bronx and Washington Heights, Vladimir began polishing his wit while attending Wesleyan University. Whether discussing his grandfather who fathered 47 kids, going to college without luggage, or calling a cab company run by latino spies, you will enjoy watching this comedian weave a hilarious fabric of truth and absurdity. Vladimir is a regular at all the New York City Comedy clubs. He is also a Diversity Scholarship Winner at The People's Improv Theater where he is also taking writing courses. In 2010 Vladimir was a finalist in Gilda's Laugh Festival and in 2011 he was a quarter-finalist at the Laughing Skull Festival. Vladimir has been featured on Standup 360, ComedyTime and SiTV's Comedy Quickies. He is also on the 2013 NBC Standup for Diversity College Tour.

Ran'd Shine -- The New Face of Magic!
Ran'd considers magic as much more than just entertainment. He wants to expand your mind . . . get you to look at things from a different angle . . . and explore a bit of what the term "diversity" truly means. (DYK that the first American born magician was Black?)
That's why he has traveled extensively to Africa to mix magic with exploring his roots. The lessons he learned there are shouting to be shared. You will learn and come away a better person; but, don't get the wrong idea -- the show is also wildly entertaining, excitingly original, andPG clean.
President Obama thought enough of Ran'd to ask him to perform at the military's prestigious "Salute to Heroes Inaugural Banquet and Ball!" Come discover for yourself, the "New Face of Magic!"
