Submission Guidelines

The goal of the SOARS Conference is to promote and highlight research accomplishments and scholarly achievements of SUNY Orange students under the mentorship of SUNY Orange faculty. The SOARS Conference is an opportunity for all SUNY Orange students to celebrate and share their achievements in research and scholarship.

Students may choose from the following formats for the presentation of their research:

  • Oral presentation
    • Accompanied by slides (PowerPoint or Google Slides)
    • 10 minutes
  • Poster presentation 
    • Present their work on a tri-fold poster
    • Be prepared to discuss their research with audience members one to one.
  • Creative research project
    • This category is intended to encompass any creative format in which a student wishes to present their research, if approved by their faculty mentor.
    • Examples include (but are not limited to):  poetry, original song lyrics/music, and art work.

Students must submit the following by the submission deadline:

  • Research - Using one of the Submission Formats detailed below
    • All submissions MUST include a list of references/sources used when completing the research.
  • The online registration form, available on the SOARS home page (in the menu on the left)
  • An mail confirmation from their SUNY Orange faculty mentor verifying the mentor's consent for the student to submit this work.

Oral Presentation

  • Written paper (Minimum 3 pages)
    • This includes discipline-specific formats, such as Nursing Process Papers
  • Abstract (See guidelines for abstracts)
  • Slide presentation

Poster Presentation

Choose One of the Following Options:

  • Written paper (Minimum 3 pages)
  • Abstract (See guidelines for abstracts)
  • Clear images of the completed poster
  • Slide presentation that will serve as the basis for a poster

Creative Research Project

Choose One of the Following Options:

  • Written paper (Minimum 3 pages)
  • Abstract
  • Clear image of project, if appropriate to the format
    • Example:  Image of art work
  • Video of project, if appropriate to the format
    • Example:  Video of student performing original song
  • Poem
