Senate Passes NDAA with PTA Inclusion in Tricare

On September 18th, the Senate passed its version of the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA.  APTA worked with Senator Tillis’s (NC) office to introduce an amendment that directs the Secretary of Defense to revise TRICARE so it would recognize physical therapist assistants and occupational therapy assistants. The amendment was part of a large package of amendments that was added and Senator McCain praised the bipartisan agreement on the package. APTA is hopeful that the language passed in the Senate version is the final agreed-upon language since it is more directive and we believe it would take less time to implement.

NPTE Examination Fee Increase Effective January 1, 2018

NPTE examination fee increase will begin January 1, 2018. At FSBPT's annual meeting held November 3-5, 2016 an NPTE fee increase was discussed. At the conclusion of the meeting, on November 6, 2016, the Board of Directors for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) passed a motion to increase the fee for the NPTE from $400 to $485 effective for examination registrations received on or after January 1, 2018.

2017 Statewide Physical Therapy Conference

October 20 & 21, 2017, The Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, NY. The NYPTA Conference is a statewide education event for physical therapist assistants, physical therapists, and physical therapy/physical therapist assistant students. Association members and non-members are welcome to attend educational sessions offering up to 13 hours of continuing education credits in two days. In addition to the educational seminars, there will be poster presentations, networking opportunities, and an exhibit hall featuring suppliers from throughout the state and country who have services to offer the physical therapy profession. Governor Cuomo Vetoes Workers' Compensation PTA Legislation!

On November 28, 2016 Governor Cuomo vetoed the Workers' Compensation PTA legislation (S2718 –A Griffo) that would have allowed treatment of injured workers by physical therapist assistants.
