New York State MATH & SCIENCE SUMMER CAMP

The existing and active alliance between the Newburgh Enlarged City School District and SUNY Orange lends itself to this opportunity to continue building collaborative outreach educational partnerships. Through this science grant we aim to provide fun, educational and experiential learning projects centered around content knowledge and real world applications of scientific principles to the Newburgh Enlarged City School District middle school children.

Forty-five middle school students are attending two (2) two-week sessions for a total of 90 students. Each session operates for 10 days (Monday - Friday) from 8:30 am through 2:30 pm. The students work in teams of 15 to solve real-world and work-related problems with a hands-on approach, employing 21st century technology in a workplace simulation environment. The program aligns with the NYS learning standards and intermediate core curricula in science for grades 5-8. SUNY Orange Newburgh Extension Center serves as the host site and location of the Program. The Program operates under the auspices of SUNY Orange's Office of Educational Partnerships and is coordinated through SUNY Orange's Center for Youth Development.
