Academic Affairs Magazine Highlights Teamwork Among Faculty and Staff as Well as Collaborations within the Community

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- The 2008 edition of "Learning Alive," the Academic Affairs Magazine of SUNY Orange, chronicles the extensive collaboration among many groups on campus as well as the teamwork necessary to create adaptive learning environments for students, establish a strong rapport with various organizations in the community and fortify the academic curriculum.

The cover story of the College's third issue of "Learning Alive" focuses on the Biology Department under the heading "SUNY Orange Showcases its "Bio-Diversity." Thanks to its professional diversity, few, if any, departments at SUNY Orange can match the breath of impact upon the College that has been exhibited by the Biology Department.

A pair of additional main feature articles elsewhere in the magazine describe the revitalization of the College's Continuing and Professional Education department and the creation of "First-Year Experience/Learning Communities" designed to help selected students adapt to the demands of college academics.

In addition, "Learning Alive" details the impact that the Gilman Center for International Education, which opened this past March, will have on the College's curriculum. You can also read about how a group of professors joined forces to re-energize their focus on the classroom, resulting in several "humanities initiatives" that will benefit students.

One new feature in the 2008 "Learning Alive" is an array of news briefs that detail faculty excellence, collaborations between the College and local high school educators, the creation of an "information commons" in the Library, and the volunteer efforts of students who helped prepare income tax reports for local residents.
