A resident of Middletown, Maleike was administered the oath of office by Board chair Helen Ullrich at the Board’s Sept. 20 meeting. She was elected to the post by her fellow students and will serve a one-year term, representing the College’s more than 5,200 students at Board meetings and other selected College events.

Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Maleike moved to the United States 10 years ago. She resided in Long Island and New York City before relocating to Middletown with her husband. At SUNY Orange, she is an active member of the Architecture Club and served as that group’s treasurer during the 2016-17 academic year. She has worked with SUNY Orange instructor Charles Passarotti as an assistant project manager since December 2015.

She is also a graduate of the 2016-2017 Eleanor Roosevelt Community College Emerging Leaders (ECCEL) Program, sponsored by the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill. The yearlong program prepares students to lead in all aspects of their lives – personal, academic, professional and community – with a focus on self-discovery, skill development, experiential learning and global citizenship. The involvement of SUNY Orange students in the ECCEL program is supported by the SUNY Orange Foundation.

Maleike earned an associate’s degree in occupational studies from New York College of Health Professions in 2011. In addition, she gained administrative experience in the construction field while working for one of the companies involved in building the Freedom Tower at One World Trade Center.

Her term will conclude at the Board’s June 2018 meeting.
