Moore, who revived the dormant orchestra 20 years ago, has developed it into a highly respected ensemble over the past two decades by blending student and community musicians. She will be retiring from conducting the orchestra after this performance.

“It has been very important to me to include the word, ‘community’ in the name of the orchestra. The orchestra embodies the College’s outreach mission to the community,” Moore said. “With the shared goal of creating beautiful orchestral music, SUNY Orange students learn and rehearse side-by-side with community musicians who range from the amateur to the professional and from the young to the young at heart. And, together, we offer classical, orchestral music to our devoted audience.

“I am proud of the orchestra members for performing music well that many might have conceived initially as beyond their abilities,” she added. “It has truly been a delight, a moment of great pride, for me to hear the orchestra perform difficult literature with understanding, sensitivity, and with great musicality. I am very grateful to the musicians who have shared their talents with the orchestra.”

The selections for the evening program were chosen because they hold special places in pop culture and can be heard in movies, on television and even at fireworks displays. The program features Gioacchino Rossini’s overture to “William Tell,” Sergei Prokofiev’s “Lieutenant Kijé Suite, Op. 60,” Roger Branga’s arrangement of Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero” and Peter Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Festival Overture, Op. 49.”

General Admission is $10. Active duty military personnel and SUNY Orange students with ID are free. The Paramount Theatre, located at 17 South St. in Middletown, is universally accessible. The concert is sponsored by the College’s Arts and Communication Department. For more information, call (845) 341-4787.
