Chester Resident Selected by Peers; Will Represent Fellow Students at Board Meetings and College Events

PHOTO: Shane LadenMIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Chester resident Shane Laden has been elected as a student trustee and will serve on the SUNY Orange Board of Directors for the 2016-17 academic year.

Laden, who was administered the oath of office by Board chair Helen Ullrich at the Board’s September meeting, was elected to the post by his fellow students and will serve a one-year term.

As the student Trustee, Laden will represent the College’s nearly 6,000 students at Board meetings and other selected College events. Laden earned degrees in liberal arts and music from the College in May 2015 has returned to pursue a new media degree.

Laden received the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence in April 2015, the highest academic honor that is bestowed upon community college students in New York State. He has also served as president of the SUNY Orange Veterans Club and was a member of the Middletown campus Student Senate. He served on the College’s Veterans Task Force, a group charged with reviewing and expanding opportunities and services for veterans attending SUNY Orange.

He also holds membership in his local American Legion post and the Nam Knights Motorcycle Club. Laden has been active in a number of community service and fundraising projects to support fallen and injured veterans and their families.

His term will conclude at the Board’s June 2017 meeting.
