Program Entitled “Let’s Talk About the Sex Myth” to be Presented March 29

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Rachel Hills, author of the book “The Sex Myth: The Gap Between Our Fantasies and Reality,” will deliver a workshop entitled “Let’s Talk About the Sex Myth” at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 29 in the Gerry Forum of the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering on SUNY Orange’s Middletown campus.

A native Australian living in New York City, Hills is an experienced speaker who has presented to college campuses throughout the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. She has also been featured on several TEDx talk segments. Her work has been highlighted in such publications as the New York Times, Vogue, NYMag.com, Cosmopolitan, The Atlantic, The Daily Beast, and many others. Her book was named one of the best books of 2015 by the New York Times’ “Women in the World” blog.

According to Hills, sexuality isn’t just personal, it’s political. At SUNY Orange, she will lead a 90-minute discussion about the social and cultural forces that shape the way we think about sex. How do you feel you’re supposed to do (or not do) sex? What are the ideals that bother you most? And what can you do to challenge them?

Admission is free and open to the general public.

The event is being jointly sponsored by the College’s Honors Program, Feminism Club and Committee for Institutional Diversity and Equity, along with the Interdisciplinary Studies, Global Studies and Behavioral Sciences departments. For more information, contact Elaine Torda, coordinator of the Honors Program, at (845) 341-4004.
