As the ITEC Campus CIO at SUNY Orange, McDonald will serve as a member of the president’s Cabinet, and have oversight of the day-to-day operations of the College’s Information Technology Services department.
For the past four years, McDonald served as assistant CIO at North Shore Community College in Danvers, Mass., having been assigned to that college through its partnership with Ellucian. In his role at SUNY Orange, McDonald will be employed by the SUNY Information Technology Exchange Center (ITEC) and will be assigned to SUNY Orange.

ITEC supports multi-campus, computer-related group activities designed to improve the quality, quantity and cost- effectiveness of computer services throughout the State University of New York as well as across the campuses of its member institutions. It offers its members software support and services/business continuity/disaster recovery and planning services; remote services; information technology hosting services; and academic software support.

Over the past year, SUNY Orange has partnered with ITEC for technological support and consultation, and the College collaborated with ITEC while conducting a national CIO search.

“Our partnership with ITEC has been highly fruitful, particularly in the absence of a CIO here at SUNY Orange, and I am very confident that Brian will be a welcomed addition to our administrative leadership team,” Young said. “I believe his values and goals are in line with those of the College and his personality will fit seamlessly into our SUNY Orange community. During the interview process, I was excited by his passion, impressed by his credentials and motivated by his vision for improving our overall IT program.”

As the ITEC Campus CIO at SUNY Orange, McDonald will serve as a member of the president’s Cabinet, and have oversight of the day-to-day operations of the College’s Information Technology Services department.

McDonald has 14 years of technological, networking and managerial experience, having worked for a wide cross-section of employers within both the private sector and higher education. Prior to his tenure at North Shore, he spent two years as chief information officer at Hastings College and four years as an information officer for SunGard Higher Education.

He has also worked for the Conservation Services Group, of Westborough, Mass., and the Town of Winchester in New Hampshire. McDonald attended Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, N.H., where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and his master’s degree in information technology management.
