Mary Gamory Named Senior Director; New Directors at Middletown and Newburgh Sites Announced Also

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Mary Gamory was recently named senior director of the SUNY Orange Lab Schools, while the childcare facilities on the College’s Middletown and Newburgh campuses both welcomed new site directors as well.

Tammy Brockett has been hired to serve as director of the Morrison Lab School on the Middletown campus and Kimberly Huchko was selected as the new director of the Newburgh campus Lab School. Both directors will report to Gamory.

The Lab Schools provide on-campus child care for the children of SUNY Orange students, faculty and staff, as well as community members. Full-day, morning and afternoon programs for children ranging from 6 weeks old through the end of pre-school age are available. The schools are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Universal Pre-K education is also available in cooperation with both the Middletown and Newburgh Enlarged City School Districts.

The schools are licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and staffed by nurturing, highly qualified teachers and assistants. Each center provides a healthy, happy and stimulating learning environment where children learn through a variety of play-based experiences. Free, nutritious meals are available for children. Tuition subsidies for SUNY Orange students are also available.

Gamory was appointed as senior director in July after serving as the interim director of the Morrison Lab School. . In her time as interim director, she introduced new programming, events, grants and partnerships to the school. She has an extensive range of experience in the field of early childhood, spanning across many developmental stages. Her areas of interest are intentional teaching and student engagement. She has also been an adjunct instructor for the College’s Education and English departments

Brockett brings more than 16 years of early childhood experience to her new position. She is a specialist in family advocacy and outreach. In her directorship role prior to being hired by SUNY Orange, Brockett partnered for many years with the College’s Education Department while providing field experience and observation opportunities for SUNY Orange student teachers.

An early childhood professional for 13 years, Huchko has been both a director and head teacher. She has vast experience in bridging developmental gaps during the early childhood years.
