Community-based Event to Provide Veterans with Access to Services, Benefits, Education and Jobs

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- In a collaborative, community-based effort to unite access to employment, education, community resources and services for veterans and their families, SUNY Orange will host a “Stand Up for Veterans” event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 2 in the Diana Physical Education Center on the College’s Middletown campus.

More than 25 governmental agencies, veterans support organizations, healthcare providers and higher education institutions will be represented. The event features a veterans-only hiring fair, with more than 40 regional businesses on tap to participate. Veterans are encouraged to wear business attire and bring copies of resumes.

Additionally, health screenings (physical wellness, vision and more), assistance for veterans to register their DD-214 form with the Orange County Clerk’s Office, benefits assistance, access to social and community resources, college admissions, and family activities will be available.

The event is a joint venture hosted by SUNY Orange in conjunction with the Orange County Veterans Services Agency, the SUNY Orange Veterans Club, and Vet2Vet, which provides veterans outreach, case management and counseling services to all veterans, members of the Armed Forces and their families.

Among the organizations that have agreed to participate are: Adelphi University, American Red Cross, Armandos, Arms Acres, Blue Water Navy, Common Ground, Crystal Run Healthcare, Dolson Avenue Medical, Homestead Funding Corp., Middletown Kiwanis, Middletown Vet Center, Military One Source, New York Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Sons of the American Legion, Sullivan County Veterans Services Office, SUNY New Paltz, Troops To Teachers, VA Mobile Unit, Veterans Home Buyers Network, Veterans Miracle Center of Albany, West Cop, VA Hudson Valley Healthcare, The American Legion and Common Ground.

Shop Rite/Wakefern, Advanced Testing, Orange and Rockland, Central Hudson, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Orange Regional Medical Center and Catskill Regional Medical Center, along with local labor unions, will be among those businesses sending representatives to the job fair.
