Middletown Musician to Perform Solo During Community Orchestra’s May 2 Concert at Paramount Theatre

PHOTO: Gregg MichalakMIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Noted Middletown pianist Gregg Michalak, recipient of music awards both nationally and internationally, will join the SUNY Orange Community Orchestra as it concludes its 18th season with its annual Spring concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 2 at the Paramount Theatre.

Michalak, who presently works as an accompanist and vocal coach at Vassar College, will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58” with the orchestra. The evening program will also include the orchestra’s performance of Franz Schubert’s “Symphony No. 8 (“Unfinished”) in B Minor, D. 759.”

Michalak has been a prize winner in several national and international competitions, including the World Keyboard, Five Towns and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) competitions. He has been invited to many colleges and universities, where he has presented master classes and appeared as recitalist.

He has collaborated with such noted artists as violist Danielle Farina (Lark Quartet), cellist Yosef Feigelson, violinist Ihor Shablovsky, horn player Abby Mayer and soprano Sarah Levine-Simon.

Recently, Michalak’s playing was featured in “The Portrait,” a New York City play written and produced by Roger Simon and Sarah Levine-Simon. He has also appeared in other musical productions. His orchestral appearances include the Ithaca College Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, the Orange County Community College Orchestra, the Highlands Symphony Orchestra and the Aeolian Symphony Orchestra.

In 2005, Michalak collaborated with Stephen Langer to record Beethoven Piano Concertos Nos. 3 and 4 on the Archive Classics label.

The concert is sponsored by the College’s Arts and Communication Department. General admission is $10. SUNY Orange Students with a current ID and active military personnel will be admitted free.
