The lecture, entitled “How Then Shall We Feed Ourselves -- More People ... Less Water -- Is Aquaponics our Future?”, is sponsored by the SUNY Orange Business Department as part of the part of the College’s ongoing, yearlong Global Initative: Water programming.

Continental Organics is a zero-waste agriculture company located in New Windsor. The company raises fish using non-GMO (genetically modified organisms) certified feed and many varieties of organically grown produce using aquaponics and hydroponics. Aquaponics is a method of producing food that combines conventional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as snails, fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water).

Prior to starting Continental Organics, Finnegan was chief counsel for Governor George Pataki and helped negotiate the agreement between New York City and upstate communities to protect the city’s upstate water supply. He also was a managing director for JP Morgan Chase and worked with companies to finance environmental projects.
