Inclement Weather Concerns Prompt College and Paramount Theatre to Move Performance Back One Week

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Due to concerns about inclement weather, the SUNY Orange Community Orchestra concert scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 at Middletown’s Paramount Theatre, has been rescheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, March 1.

Sunday’s performance was to have included solo performances by high school musicians Olivia McCartney of Newburgh Free Academy and Brianna Reed of Valley Central High School, winners of the orchestra’s 13th annual Concerto/Aria Contest. McCartney and Reed will return with the orchestra on March 1 to perform oboe and French horn solos, respectively.

McCartney will perform the second movement of Wolfgang Mozart’s “Concerto in C Major for Oboe, K-314” while Reed will play “Morceau de Concert por Cor, Op. 94,” by Camille Saint-Saëns. The two talented young musicians earned the chance to solo by virtue of winning the orchestra’s 13th annual Concerto/Aria Contest, which is designed to provide a featured musical performance opportunity for outstanding young instrumentalists and vocalists from within Orange County.

In addition to the Mozart and Saint-Saëns concerti, the afternoon program will also feature George Enescu’s “Romanian Rhapsody, No. 1,” Claude Debussy’s “Nocturnes” and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espagnol, Op. 34.” The SUNY Orange Community Orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Hilarie Clark Moore.

Admission is $10, with active duty military personnel and SUNY Orange students admitted for free.
