Variety of Musical Styles, Coupled with Selected Holiday Songs, Should Appeal to All Tastes

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- The SUNY Orange Chamber Ensemble will host its annual winter concert at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 in Morrison Hall on the College’s Middletown campus.

A varied program that features musical styles covering more than four centuries, as well as several holiday selections, should provide something for all tastes. The Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Hilarie Clark Moore, is comprised of SUNY Orange students and members of the community.

The concert will open with Henry Purcell’s ‘Trio Sonata No. 1,” featuring the woodwind trio of Jessica Stokes (flute), Joanna Simon (oboe) and Lara Patel (bassoon), accompanied by Moore on piano. The trio will also perform several holiday songs before the program moves to Wolgang Mozart’s “Quartet No. 3 in G. Major, K. 156” with Theodora Horowitz (first violin), Lauren Hunter (second violin), Christine Soto (third violin) and Alyssa Sollazzo (cello) performing.

The woodwind quintet of Lola Riddick (flute), Joel Simon (oboe), Allan Plumb (clarinet), Linda Dziuban (bassoon) and Barbara Sardone (French horn) will perform Farkas Ferenc’s “Early Hungarian Dances from the 17th Century” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols III.” The evening will conclude with Mozart’s “Divertimento for Violin, Viola and Cello,” which will showcase Dan Waldvogel (violin), Brittany Robinson (viola) and Cassie Kochem (cello).

The concert is offered in conjunction with the College’s annual Holiday Open House at Morrison Hall, which will run from 1 to 5 p.m. on the weekends of Dec. 6-7 and 13-14. Admission is free. For more information on the concert, contact the Arts and Communication Department at (845) 341-4787.
