The SUNY Orange foursome--comprised of Jennifer Gutierrez (Newburgh), Teuta Ramusevic (Newburgh), Geovana Peralta (New Windsor) and Ezra Kuliszewski (Wallkill)--was one of just five community college groups among the 241 teams that advanced to the statewide competition. Dubbed “LifeSavers Training” after the name of their proposed business, the four students earned the trip to Albany after winning the biotech/health services category at the regional Business Plan Competition hosted by Marist College in April. In all, six SUNY Orange teams competed at Marist.

The group’s business plan calls for the company to offer education and training that would provide citizens with the proper skills and attitudes to reduce mortality and morbidity in ill, injured and clinically dead people and pets, while at the same time maintaining safety for others at scenes of emergencies. The company would provide training in CPR, first aid, bloodborne pathogens and pet first aid. It would seek proper licenses from the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross.

The team was advised by SUNY Orange business professors Terree Angerame, Donald Urmston and Josephina Vondras.
