SUNY UNVEILS REDESIGNED SYSTEMWIDE WEB SITE
Redesign Simplifies The Application Process, Targets Student Priorities
ALBANY – State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher today announced the launch of the university system’s redesigned website, www.suny.edu. The new site was designed with student priorities in mind, making it easier to apply to SUNY’s 64 campuses and find campus-specific information such as degree offerings, opportunities for experiential learning, and financial aid options.
“SUNY.edu is our door to the world and its new navigation and design will ensure that all of our stakeholders, and especially our students, can easily find what they need, and what is important to them,” said Chancellor Zimpher. “With the launch of our new site, we have aimed to make it easier than ever to apply to, and engage with, New York’s public university system.”
The launch includes a complete mobile experience and revamped social media presence. The Generation SUNY blog, which drives content across all of SUNY’s social media platforms – including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more recently, LinkedIn and Instagram – is taking a new approach in developing more in-depth content from the across the system and its 64 campuses to better engage students, faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and supporters.
Several new features are also unveiled as part of the redesign work, most notably the addition of Smart Track℠ Financial Aid Planning, a new Alumni Gateway, SUNY Works Co-op and Internship Information, and SUNY Brand Resources.
“This new website is a perfect example of how Chancellor Zimpher ensures students are at the center of everything SUNY does,” said Sara Garfinkle, a student at Buffalo State and director of academic affairs for the SUNY Student Assembly. “The new design makes information students need clear, concise, and easy to find. Whether you are a new student looking to apply, a current student needing information about degree completion, or a former student wanting to reconnect, the new SUNY.edu is a step in the right direction and a great opportunity to learn more about all that our system has to offer.”
“SUNY.edu is a critical resource for community college students, especially when they think about transferring or continuing their education after graduation,” said Drayvon Carmichael, president of the Westchester Community College Student Government Association. “I commend Chancellor Zimpher and her team for focusing on student needs and always working to improve access across the system."
Additionally, for the first time, System Administration’s homepage is no longer the same as that of the system. A sub-site, system.suny.edu, will now serve as the gateway for System Administration department pages, employee resources, university policies, and other materials of similar nature.
As Phase I of web redesign comes to an end, Phase II will focus on fixing any existing bugs, building several new high profile feature sets for constituent groups, and transitioning the websites of many university-wide programs still using legacy designs and systems.
