David Conklin, presidents of SUNY Ulster and Dutchess Community College, respectively, as chief honorees at SUNY New Paltz’s 10th annual Gala set for 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Mohonk Mountain House.

Sponsored by the New Paltz Foundation, the gala annually recognizes local civic, business and educational leaders for work related to the university. The three presidents will be honored for their educational leadership in preparing local students for transfer to SUNY New Paltz and other four-year colleges and universities.

Richards, in his 10th year as president of SUNY Orange, has been recognized as a visionary leader who understands that community colleges are catalysts for economic stability and expansion, as well as creators of educational growth for residents of the areas those colleges serve

He has paved the way for the College to establish partnerships with many local businesses and organizations, and his support of collaborations has freed staff and faculty members to pursue creative arrangements with the community as well. He is also a skillful fundraiser who has built beneficial relationships with local businesses, organizations and individuals.

His vision for the College, coupled with his ability to garner wide-ranging support for initiatives at SUNY Orange, has helped secure approximately $150 million in public-private support for capital projects at the College’s two campuses. These investments include the expansion to the Newburgh campus and an ongoing capital construction initiative on the Middletown campus.

Conklin has been president at Dutchess since 1992 and has helped grow DCC’s enrollment by nearly 50 percent in that span while adding more than 20 degree and certificate programs. Katt has led Ulster since April 2001, although he joined the College staff in 1968 and has served in a variety of capacities in student services, development and academic affairs.
