Cellist Martha Colby Will Join the Orchestra and Perform Two Solos During the Evening

PHOTO: Martha ColbyMIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Cellist Martha Colby will join the SUNY Orange Community Orchestra when it opens its 2012-13 concert series with its annual Fall performance, slated for 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10 at the historic Paramount Theatre, 17 South St., Middletown.

Colby will perform cello solos during the orchestra’s performances of “Ėlégie, Op. 24” by Gabriel Fauré and Max Bruch’s “Kol Nidrei, Op. 47.” The remainder of the evening program will include “March Slave, Op. 31” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and “Symphony No. 41, in C Major, K. 551, ‘Jupiter’” by Wolfgang Mozart.

Colby, recently a freelance musician living in New York City, currently serves as a pianist and cellist at Yellowstone National Park’s historic Old Faithful Inn and performs with the Lake String Quartet at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel in Lake Village, Wyo. She has performed as part of the band October Project (“Bury My Lovely”), collaborated with singer-songwriters Anna Dagmar, Sloan Wainwright, Gregory Douglass; and played with the ensemble Rosewood and Rhythm.

Her debut album, “Across Two Rivers,” appears on the LWR Productions label. A recipient of the Joe Venuti Jazz Masters Award and several Meet the Composer grants, Colby has worked with world-renowned musicians including Matt Glaser, Julie Lyonn Lieberman, Billy Hart and Kurt Rosenwinkel.

The SUNY Orange Community Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Hilarie Clark Moore, is comprised of students and members of the community.

The concert is sponsored by the College’s Arts and Communication Department. General admission is $5. SUNY Orange Students with a current ID and active military personnel will be admitted free. The Paramount Theatre, located at 17 South St. in Middletown, is universally accessible.
