As the student trustee, Lewis will represent the College’s nearly 7,000 students at Board meetings and other special College events. A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy who is studying business full-time at the College’s Newburgh campus, Lewis has been an active presence on SUNY Orange’s newly expanded branch campus over the past two years. She becomes the first full-time Newburgh campus student to serve in the capacity of Student Trustee.

Lewis was president of the Newburgh campus student Board of Activities in 2011-12 and was a driving force in the creation of the Newburgh Student Senate. Both of those groups assure that Newburgh students are involved in governing student activities on the Newburgh campus and are adequately represented as part of the College-wide student body.

Outside of her full-time academic duties, Lewis has served as president of the Newburgh Youth Council NAACP. She also mentors local youths as president of the youth group at Church of God By Faith in Newburgh.

“Through my participation and service both on campus and in the community, I took the great opportunity to run for student trustee,” Lewis says. “I consider this a great honor and privilege to serve on the Board of Trustees and hope to do my best to represent my fellow students.”

Her one-year term began Monday when she took the oath of office and will conclude at the Board’s June 2013 meeting.
