SUNY ORANGE ANNOUNCES BLOOD DRIVES FOR JULY 31 AND AUG. 1

7/9/2012

July 31 Event Slated for Kaplan Hall on Newburgh Campus; August 1 Drive to be Held on Middletown Campus

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – SUNY Orange will be hosting a pair of upcoming summer blood drives, partnering with the New York Blood Center for a drive on Tuesday, July 31 at the Newburgh campus and pairing with the Red Cross for a collection event on Wednesday, Aug. 1 on the Middletown campus.

There is a critical need at this time of year for all blood types, but a recent surge in demand by local hospitals has placed a premium on O+, O-, B-, and A- blood types. Typically, blood supplies dwindle in the summer due to vacations, soaring temperatures and schools being closed.

Donors at the Newburgh blood drive will receive two tickets to an August New York Mets game at Citi Field in Flushing, N.Y. The tickets will be mailed to the donors at a later date. The Newburgh event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Great Room of Kaplan Hall, located at the College’s Newburgh campus, One Washington Center. The Middletown drive will held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fireplace Lounge of the George F. Shepard Student Center, 115 South St.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact the SUNY Orange Wellness Center at (845) 341-4870. Walk-ins are welcome.
