Performance of “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” to be Dedicated to Memory of Ada C. DeGeus

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- When the SUNY Orange Choir and Madrigal Singers deliver their annual Mother’s Day concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 13 in Orange Hall Theatre on the College’s Middletown campus, they will pay tribute to the memory of the College’s longtime former alumni director Ada C. DeGeus who passed away in February.

The concert will be dedicated to DeGeus, a close personal friend of choir director Christa Damaris who served the Orange County Community College Alumni Association for more than two decades. DeGeus was a friendly face and routine presence at many SUNY Orange events and in 2003 she was elected to the SUNY Council for University Affairs and Development Hall of Fame. In DeGeus’ honor, the choir will perform “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place” from Johannes Brahms’ “German Requiem.”

The program will also include works from Gioachino Rossini, Paul Hindemith and Leonard Bernstein, along with arrangements of folk tunes and familiar songs from Broadway musicals.

Admission to the concert will be free, but any donations received will be forwarded to the Ada C. DeGeus Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund. Donations to the scholarship can be made directly to the SUNY Orange Foundation, c/o Vinnie Cazzetta, 115 South St., Middletown, NY, 10940.

The concert is sponsored by the College’s Arts and Communication Department. For more information, call (845) 341-4787.
