Engineering Major to Represent SUNY Orange Student Body

PHOTO:Erica Cruz, new SUNY Orange student trusteeMIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Erica Cruz, a New Windsor resident who graduated from Monticello High School in 2005, has been elected to serve as the 2011-12 student representative to the SUNY Orange Board of Trustees and her one-year appointment was formally approved by the Trustees at their meeting this morning.

As the Student Trustee, Cruz carries the messages of SUNY Orange’s more than 7,000 students to the Board and represents the student body and the College. An engineering student at SUNY Orange, Cruz was president of the Student Senate during the 2010-11 academic year and also serves as a Student Ambassador.

She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for students at two-year colleges, and has been on the Dean’s List each of her first three semesters.

Cruz, who works as a laboratory technician with Advanced Testing, is also an intelligence analyst with the Army National Guard, a role she has held since 2006. Prior to returning to Orange County to enroll at SUNY Orange, Cruz was a border patrol agent in Nogales, Ariz., and a correctional officer in Dallas, Texas. She has already earned an associate’s degree in intelligence operations.

She was salutatorian of the United States Border Patrol Agent Academy in Artesia, N.M., in 2008; class sergeant and valedictorian of the Correctional Officer Academy in Dallas in 2007; and valedictorian of the Intelligence Analyst Training Class at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., in 2006. She earned her German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in 2006.
