Joint Ceremony Fetes 165 Graduates from SUNY Orange’s Seven Health Professions Programs

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Many of the 165 graduates from SUNY Orange’s seven health professions programs gathered for a joint recognition ceremony Thursday evening (May 19) in the Physical Education Building in a celebration that toasted the accomplishments of students from throughout the College’s Health Professions division.

The event was intended to complement the traditional pinning ceremonies that many of the programs hold during Commencement week, while also giving College leaders the opportunity to recognize the graduates as a group. The nursing department’s annual pinning ceremony was held following the recognition event.

Each department was represented by a student speaker and each graduate received a certificate of achievement. SUNY Orange president Dr. William Richards welcomed the graduates and their guests, with Michael Gawronski, academic vice president for the Health Professions, serving as host. Most of the faculty members from the seven departments were on hand as well.

The College’s seven health professions departments include: Dental Hygiene (16 graduates in 2011), Diagnostic Imaging (20), Exercise Studies (10), Medical Laboratory Technology (8), Nursing (70), Occupational Therapy Assistant (25) and Physical Therapist Assistant (16).

The student speakers were Natalie Heady (dental hygiene), Jose Mendoza (diagnostic imaging), Pamela Hammond (medical laboratory technology), Jennifer Stanley (movement sciences), Silfia Brennan (occupational therapy assistant) and Stephanie Livanos (physical therapist assistant).

SUNY Orange’s 61st Commencement will be held in the Physical Education Building at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21.
