College to Operate Four Days Per Week Through July; Offices to be Closed on Fridays

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Following its successful four-day work week experiment last June and July, SUNY Orange will once again operate on a “Summer Hours” schedule at both its Middletown and Newburgh campuses beginning Monday, June 7. The College will be closed on Fridays but will have extended office hours the remaining four days of the week.

Beginning with the week of Aug. 2, the College will return to its normal operating schedule as it prepares to welcome students for the Fall 2010 semester, which begins Monday, Aug. 30. Friday closings will commence on June 11 and conclude on July 30.

Many SUNY Orange offices in Middletown will serve the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday while Newburgh campus offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Some Student Services offices—generally Financial Aid, Advising, Admissions, and Records and Registration--in Middletown will remain open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays to accommodate students. Those same Student Services offices in Newburgh will remain open late, until 8 p.m., on Tuesday evenings.

The general public is encouraged to verify office hours on the SUNY Orange web site before arriving at either campus.

“We realized enough savings in facility-related operating expenses (e.g., utilities, maintenance) last summer to warrant implementing the program again this summer,” said Dr. William Richards, SUNY Orange president. “I believe our employees enjoyed having the benefit of three-day weekends, the College was able to enhance its sustainability initiatives and reduce its carbon footprint, and we were able to do all of this while still maintaining a high level of customer service.”
