NEW YORK STATE SENATE ADOPTS RESOLUTION HONORING SUNY ORANGE TRUSTEE

PHOTO: Dr. Arthur C. AnthonisenALBANY, N.Y. – The New York State Senate on Tuesday (Feb. 23) adopted a resolution introduced by Senator William J. Larkin Jr. honoring SUNY Orange Trustee Dr. Arthur C. Anthonisen for his dedicated support the College and long-standing commitment to education.

Anthonisen, who has served as a SUNY Orange Trustee since 1989, has been a member of the New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT) Board and is the immediate past chairman of the American Community College Trustees (ACCT), a national trustee organization.

A copy of this resolution will be read during the awards dinner (March 12) at the upcoming NYCCT annual conference in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Anthonisen is to be recognized for his outstanding work during his one-year stint as chair of the ACCT.

Below is the text of Resolution J3980:

LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by Orange County
Community College and the New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT)

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the best
interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and cannot
be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and

WHEREAS, It is also the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great State;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Orange County Community College and the New York
Community College Trustees; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on
Friday, March 12, 2010, at the NYCCT Awards Banquet, held in connection
with its 56th Annual Spring Conference, to be held at the Gideon Putnam
Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Arthur C. Anthonisen is concluding his one-year term as
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Community College
Trustees (ACCT); and

WHEREAS, Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen has vigorously represented Orange
County Community College through his membership in regional and national
associations such as ACCT and NYCCT, including service as a past President
and Foundation Board member of NYCCT; and

WHEREAS, The 20 years of distinguished service to the Orange County
Community College Board of Trustees rendered by Dr. Arthur C. Anthonisen
includes three one-year terms as Chairman, two terms as Vice Chairman, and
numerous significant roles within the Board’s committee structure; and

WHEREAS, Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen has personally demonstrated his
commitment to higher education by having earned his doctorate degree, upon
completion of more than 14 years of outstanding academic achievement in
rigorous disciplines at universities throughout New York and Canada; and

WHEREAS, Having ardently supported the educational mission of Orange County
Community College, Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen has simultaneously advanced
the role of higher education in New York State by enhancing economic
development throughout Orange County; and

WHEREAS, Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen has brought great credit upon
himself, Orange County and Orange County Community College by continually
demonstrating an impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an
unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of the educational programs and
opportunities offered at Orange County Community College; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and community
service, a period of constructive involvement, Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen
has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the
respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor
Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Orange County Community College and the New York
Community College Trustees, and for his significant contributions to
education in New York State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Trustee Arthur C. Anthonisen, Orange County Community
College.
