Array of Holiday Classics and Unusual Seasonal Selections on Program for Dec. 12 Concert

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band will welcome the holiday season to Middletown’s Paramount Theatre at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, with a program of unusual and seasonal selections under the theme “Big Ba(n)d Christmas.”

The band’s featured offering will be several of Ralph Carmichael’s arrangements of favorite Christmas Carols written especially for the Stan Kenton Orchestra’s classic 1961 recording for Capitol Records, including “O, Holy Night,” “God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen” and “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Also on the program will be Jesse Ayers’ “Fanfare for Christmas Morning,” Quincy Hilliard’s “In Praise of Autumn,” H. Robert Reynolds’ arrangement of Morten Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium,” and Adam Gorb’s “Yiddish Dances.”

The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band, under the direction of Kevin Scott, is comprised of SUNY Orange students and members of the community. The concert is sponsored by the College’s Arts and Communications Department. General admission is $5 and active military service personnel are admitted for free. The event is also free for SUNY Orange students who present a valid student ID.
