College Group’s Winter Concert to Feature Jazz Great’s Most Popular Songs

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The SUNY Orange Jazz Ensemble will pay tribute to jazz legend Thelonious Monk during its upcoming winter concert, set for 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5 in Orange Hall Theatre.

The free concert will feature an array of Monk’s most famous songs, including “Epistrophy,” ‘I Mean You,” “Bye Ya,” “Straight, No Chaser,” “Blue Monk,” “Bemsha Swing,” “Let’s Cool One,” “Hackensack,” “Round Midnight,” “In Walked Bud,” and “Ba Lue Bolivar Ba Lues Are.”

The SUNY Orange Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dave Miele, is comprised of Randall House (saxophone), Mary Setren (saxophone), Dennis Coleman (flute), Ken Malave (guitar), Darius Mofetas (guitar), Michael Sutton (bass), Matthew Barnes (bass), Carlton Jay (piano) and Joshua Word (drums).

The concert is sponsored by the College’s Arts and Communications Department. For more information, contact (845) 341-4787. Orange Hall Theatre is in Orange Hall, located at the intersection of Grandview and Wawayanda avenues in Middletown. The theatre is universally accessible.

The ensemble will also perform a daytime concert at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 3 in Orange Hall Theatre.
