TROY, N.Y. -- Among the many messages President Barack Obama delivered during his speech on the economy yesterday (Sept. 21) at Hudson Valley Community College was the idea that students can successfully embark upon their careers at a community college.

"We're here because this is a place where anyone with the desire to take their career to a new level or start a new career all together has the opportunity to pursue that dream," the President said. "This is a place where people of all ages and backgrounds, even in the face of obstacles; even in the face of very difficult personal challenges, can take a chance on a brighter future for themselves and for their family."

President Obama's appearance at Hudson Valley Community College was considered by many to be a signal that two-year schools will take a central role in rebuilding the economy.
