College to Operate Four Days Per Week Through July; Offices to be Closed on Fridays

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – In order to reduce energy costs and lessen its environmental impact, SUNY Orange will be operating on a “Summer Hours” schedule at both its Middletown and Newburgh campuses beginning Monday, May 18. The College will be closed on Fridays but will have extended office hours the remaining four days of the week.

Beginning with the week of Aug. 3, the College will return to its normal operating schedule as it prepares to welcome students for the Fall 2009 semester, which begins Monday, Aug. 31. Friday closings will commence on May 22 and conclude on July 31.

Many SUNY Orange offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with selected offices within the Student Services area continuing their customary practice of holding evening hours to accommodate students. The general public is encouraged to verify office hours on the SUNY Orange web site (www.sunyorange.edu) because evening hours, and selected offices’ daytime hours, will change periodically throughout the summer.

“We see this summer schedule as a great way for the College to realize savings in facility-related operating expenses (e.g., utilities, maintenance) and to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Dr. William Richards, SUNY Orange president. “But, in addition, this program will enable employees to receive the benefit of a three-day weekend during the peak summer vacation season – and the opportunity to do so, with no reduction in base pay.”
